Building the Nest

Behind the Scenes of Hawk & Oak Direct

We believe authors deserve more than simply uploading a manuscript and hoping for the best.

They deserve clarity.
Visibility.
Control.

Over the past several weeks, we have been deep in the trial-running and debugging phase of Hawk & Oak Direct — our developing direct-to-reader distribution platform designed to support ebook, audiobook, and print publishing under a more personal and transparent model.

While much of publishing technology often remains hidden behind closed systems, we wanted to approach things differently.

Our current testing phase includes:

  • author account login systems,
  • royalty visibility dashboards,
  • promotional timeline controls,
  • secure digital delivery,
  • and direct storefront integration for readers.

One of the most exciting portions of development has been the continued work on the Author Dashboard — a space designed to allow authors to view sales activity, royalty reporting, and promotional requests more directly and transparently.

That means authors will eventually be able to:

  • monitor royalty reporting through Hawk & Oak Direct,
  • request promotional pricing periods,
  • manage campaign timelines,
  • and interact with a publishing environment built with communication in mind.

Of course, building systems properly takes time.

Debugging sessions, deployment tests, route protections, interface adjustments, and infrastructure refinement have become part of the daily rhythm here behind the scenes. Some days are full of breakthroughs, while others involve chasing down a missing semicolon for an hour longer than we would like to admit.

But this stage matters.

Because Hawk & Oak Direct is not being built simply to “exist.”
It is carefully being built with the author in mind.

Every system we refine now helps lay the foundation for a publishing experience centered around accessibility, trust, and long-term partnership between publisher, authors and readers alike.

We still have much to do, but progress continues steadily, and we are excited to share more as development moves forward.

Thank you to everyone following along as Hawk & Oak continues taking shape.

Be on the look out for Hawk & Oak Direct, slated to drop Summer of 2026.
